Friday Night Meets – important info for parents & athletes

It’s been a fantastic start to the season and our membership numbers are significantly up on last year. Thank you Olympics for inspiring so many new and returning athletes! To help us run an efficient program on Friday nights, please be aware of the below USCLAC policies:

  • Athletes must be in the correct uniform with their current season registration number affixed to the front of the shirt/singlet/crop top. If athletes do not have their correct registration number, results will not be recorded. Example of correct uniform with registration number, age patch and sponsor patches affixed can be found in the Centre Handbook.
  • It is our policy that at least one parent or responsible adult guardian be in attendance at the venue for each family during Friday night competition. To ensure we comply with our insurance requirements & duty of care, we will be asking parents to sign in each Friday night. Sign In forms will be located at the Officials desk at the bottom of the grandstand adjacent to the Long Jump runways. Please ensure that parents/guardians/responsible adults sign in at the beginning of each competition meet.
  • Where we have large age groups, we do have sufficient field event locations to split the age groups to allow completion of the field event during the allotted rotation timeframe. We ask that no age group proceeds to their first rotation without being directed by a USCLAC official so that we have the chance at the beginning of the meet to assess age group numbers and allocate additional field locations where necessary.

We rely on parent help to run a successful meet each Friday night. Come and see one of our Leadership Group for more information on how you can help.

Important information for Friday 26 Feb and for End of Season Presentation

Dear Parents and Athletes

Next Friday’s competition:

We have received notification from the University that there will be a special function next Friday evening, 26 Feb, to celebrate 20 years since USC opened. This will occur in the buildings adjacent to our track.

We will be conducting a full and normal Friday evening competition. However, we have been asked to minimise noise levels until at least 6.30pm. This will particularly mean that we will need to minimise or even avoid use of the loudspeaker during the warm up, first and possibly also second rotation of the evening.

For this reason, we ask the following in order to ensure we can still have a competition evening that runs smoothly:

  • Athletes will need to gather at 5.45pm near the 100m start without waiting for the announcement, so that warm up can be organised without using the loudspeaker. Athletes wishing to do the walk will need to make sure they are at the usual starting point at 5.45pm.
  • Could centre captains and senior leaders please assist in organising athletes for walks and warm ups as above, and commence the warm up at or just after 5.45pm. This will also involve ensuring that athletes stay out of lanes 1 and 2 during warm up, to allow walkers to complete their event without hindrance.
  • Could all athletes please make an effort not to make excessive noise both before and during competition, and to listen carefully, to enable the volunteers’ and senior athletes’ instructions/directions to be heard.
  • This week in particular, we will need parents to volunteer to help early. We will be unable to announce repeatedly over the loudspeaker which age groups have no age marshal, and which other helpers are still required. We will simply be unable to start until we have the necessary help. So if you think you can help out on Friday in any way, we would be particularly grateful if you could let us know well before competition is due to start at 6pm.
  • Athletes and parents will need to be particularly mindful during both the warm up and the first rotation that there may be walks or distance events on the track, and that lanes 1 and 2 must be kept clear, so that we don’t need to use the loudspeaker.

We thank you all in advance for helping with this. Parents, please discuss all of the above with your children before Friday night. It will be our second last competition night, so we really hope it can proceed with minimal disruption!

RSVP for End of Season Presentation at Aussie World

Thanks to those of you that have filled in the RSVP for the presentation day on the website. You may have noticed that the ‘Confirmation’ (after you press submit) is currently giving the wrong date – it says ‘We look forward to seeing you on Sunday March 15’. Please ignore this error, which we are trying to correct. It appears the confirmation screen has not been updated since last year, but your RSVP for Friday March 11 will still have been received!

For those who haven’t yet done so, you can find the RSVP screen under the ‘Events and Competition’ tab on this website

Thanks, and see you all next Friday!
